A New Purpose

So little Anna is doing better at college. I'm so grateful. She and her roommate are on shaky but better ground. Anna has gotten her to pick up a bit so that was helping with the stress level. But my guess is her roommate won't be there for the second semester. If you go to college, you have to go to class, who knew?
The first week she was gone, I tore her room apart and scrubbed it. I also went through it and took down some stuff. She saved a lot of little things that really didn't need to be out. So I packed it up. I figured she would be upset. She just laughed and said that she knew I was itching to get a hold of her room. She did like it and said it was more mature. Good that was what I was aiming for.

But being me, it just seems like such a waste to have the room doing nothing. It should be earning its keep. Den said that we should rent it out. But we tried that before and the woman never paid and yelled at me all the time. It was horrible. Or she would invite her entire family over for dinner and tell us about it a few hours before hand and then want Den to cook and I had to clean up afterward. Her family was great, she wasn't!
Anyways, back to the story at hand.............................................

I'm starting to think that Anna's room looks like a laundry room! I can get a few of these and dry clothes in there. I was going to put up a clothes line but that might be too much.
I'll let you know.

I just found a very odd article, it's called 10 retarded Money Saving Tips. I would never have thought of those things, well some of them. It's a quick read and comical even if it is rude as hell. I can appreciate rude. The thing is I make Jessie's food so what does that say about us.

A Total Waste of Time

That's you and me walking around. And since we are on a nice leisurely stroll, we can stop by here for some entertainment. Then here for some ice cream. So do you put out on the first cyber-date? Just asking.
Thanks for stopping by even when I have nothing to say!

Free Stuff & Panic

Not much is going on here. With Anna being away, it is so quiet. She was the one making all of the noise. DJ is off in his own little world of school work and video games so the quiet is welcomed and new.
I've been getting back into the swing of looking for deals and free stuff. I just wanted to remind everyone that Walmart is one of the best places to get freebies. They always ship and never sell you email address. Here is a link directly to the free stuff!
On a sad note, as you know we had to back off paying as much extra on the mortgage. I ran the numbers and all I can say is YUCK!!!! It's a 30 year mortgage and if we kept paying every other week of $658, we would have the house paid for in 2025. But because we dropped the payment down to $600 biweekly, we will have it paid for in 2030. Five years is a very long time. We are still shaving 9 years off of the 30 year mortgage but I'm still sad.
I need a drink! Is there anywhere that I can get a free one?

Santa's Secret!

I'm on a roll! Wouldn't it be nice to get all of my Christmas shopping done by November? This is for another person on my list. He just put in a bar so this should be appreciated. It was $16.29 so my new total for the year is $293.25.
We have so many people to buy for that it seems overwhelming at times. But in a roundabout way it is helping Den and I. As you know, we never have any money to do anything so we can go out and search for a deal. We get to do something and have some time together. It's helping us get back on track. It's been so stressful with Anna leaving and all the bills that Den and I weren't doing so well. Being able to get out of the house and talk has been wonderful. It's not the greatest date night ever but it is helping our marriage improve. Working towards a common goal helps. Who knew Christmas shopping would save us?

The Death of a Car

I would love to send the Focus off with a bang, literally! Shooting it would be a gift but alas, I'm pretty sure that if I opened fire on the car, someone would call the cops. But then again, I have some amazing neighbors, well it's a thought anyways.
Den said that the F***us would be his project car. Well after finding out that getting the parts that he needed was a huge pain , he is rethinking it. Apparently, a lot of these cars have had the entire fuel system stripped off of them at ALL the junk yards around here. Hmmmmm, there is probably a lesson in that alone!
It just seems that there is no end in site with the car now. He has replaced about 10 different parts and nothing is helping. We have about $500 left in the car fund for the year and I think we need to save that for the cars that are working.
So here is our dilemma and since you all are so much smarter than me, I will pose this question. Would we be better off donating it on our taxes or selling it? I don't think that if we sold it for parts, we would get more than $250 for it. It runs, sort of. It's a very scary thing when it is trying to go. The gauges are all over the place and it makes some god awful noise. I backed away slowly when Den was forcing it to run.
If we donated, we would go through Kars for Kids. I have no idea how this works. I read through it but with my FIL being on vacation, I figured I would ask you. We would get a $500 tax deduction. I know that it all depends on our tax bracket and all. I was just wondering if you had ever done this and what was your take on it.
If all else fails, I'm going to do this with it.
Thanks for the help,

I Have a ..........

Something is wrong with me! I went to type I think I have a peeker and typed in pecker. Ahhhhh, what to do with me?
Anyways before I got myself all worked up and in trouble, I think someone has been looking at my Santa Stash on the blog. So I'm going to change it up a bit. I'm just going to list my grand total for the year and what I bought. No more what for who!
I bought 3 of these shirts in a bag from Kohls. They were $24 marked down to $3.36 each! So my grand total for the year is $276.96! I better get moving if I want to finish by December!
I also have $500 coming to me from Bank of America rewards. Right or wrong, I charged Anna's first EIU bill for the points. (It's paid off.) And I have $75 worth of gift cards I need to cash in from My Points. Not too bad!
I better get shopping!

I May Be Homeless

So yeah, I did something a little bad in the heat of the moment. Our satellite bill went from $25 to $40 a month and none of the lower channels were working anymore. You can pretty much guess how it went from there. I called and asked nicely to put it back to $25 and fix it. Hmmmm, transferred to another department and was told that I would have to pay to have someone come out to look at it but I could shut it off without a charge. And also that I was never entitled to the local channels that stopped working. I told the Dish Network employee that he was making it worse but was really selling shutting it off. So he shut it off then and there. I then asked about the $40 charge for the next month and he told me that they never charged me. Ummmm but I'm looking at my credit card statement online and yes, I was charged. That's what prompted me to call. No you weren't charged, he replies.
I was so frustrated by the time I got off the phone that I was glad that I canceled it. That was until I had to tell Den what I had done. I tried to tell him about all the money that we would be saving. Honestly, that didn't fly. He wasn't interested in streaming Hulu or Netflix either. He looked at me like I was a bit nuts when I told him the story. He would rather that I mutilated his arm than get rid of TV. I'll fix this I promised as he walked away mumbling. Did I mention that all three cars went down this weekend? The black car is still in the same sorry state as before and the brakes were almost gone in both the Kia and the Lumina. At one point, we only had one barely working car. So he worked all weekend and had no TV to watch. I'm lucky he didn't kill me!
Any ideas about the satellite,

More Budgeting!

I'm so boring! I know it with all of my heart. I've had to rework our budget because of all of the changes going on here. With Anna leaving and some added expenses, we have dropped down the amount that we are paying on the house. It was nice to pay over three extra payment a year but we just can't keep it up. I had hoped that the money that we were spending on gas would go down but thanks to the lovely Focus things have changed again. SO if you want to see the old budget go here. Otherwise, this is the new budget!

1200 .00 House payment(bi-weekly) so we save $300 a week
160.00 Car Insurance
160.00 Nicor and Comed
280.00 gas for all three cars
25.00 satelite
320.00 groceries

60.00 Den "fake" smokes
70.00 garbage and water
32.00 pills for me
30.00 gym for Den
160.00 cell
200.00 to save
80.00 for Anna's expenses
2777.00 total

This is the break down of how we will use the checks every week.
Week 1 -$300 house, $242 food,gas, pills,& cig ,saving and Anna, $70 garbage & water, $25 sate,$30 gym
Week 2- $300 house, $242 food, gas,pills &cig
,saving and Anna,, $160 car insurance
Week 3- $300 house, $242 food, gas,pills & cig
,saving and Anna,, $160 Nicor and ComEd,
Week 4- $300 house, $242 food, gas,pills & cig
,saving and Anna,, $160 cell

So somethings have gone up and some have gone down. I think that I'm going to have to tweak it again but at least, the budget is a little more stable than before. And I do know that it is a ton of money for the cell phones. We need the plan with unlimited texting or my teenagers go over.
I'm also going to stop cleaning for my inlaws at the end of the year so I'm trying to adjust the budget accordingly. Also, we will probably be changing car insurance companies. We are actually paying $240 a month and its going up to $270. Anna is covering the difference. But now that she is gone, they won't give us a discount for an absentee driver where other companies will. And it looks like it will be about $100 a month savings if we switch. I'll keep you posted with the boring details of my life!

We Need A New Plan

As you all know, the Focus hates us. I've been complaining for a while and well I'm still at it. Den has been driving the Kia for a few weeks and its not working out so well. The cost for gas is killing us. He is spending about $60 a week. I'm not one to procrastinate about anything. Being an A personality, I pretty ridged in my schedules and thinking but I let this problem slide. With DJ starting high school and Anna moving to EIU, we haven't done a lot with the focus.
So far we have dumped $1300(ish) into that lovely piece of machinery. Like I said before we have had it to transmission shops, reputable and not so reputable mechanics, and the Ford dealer. No one knows what it is. So Den has been pulling it apart bit by bit trying to trace it down. The problem is most of the things that he thinks might be it are all Ford parts. Of course they are and they cost three times as much as NAPA parts. He has been trying to get to the junk yard but they close before he can get there. Like we should expect anything different!
So we are back to dumping more money in it but it should be cheaper in the long run than paying for all this gas or getting a new car. So Den has a project car, I think thought that he was hoping for a Trans Am for a project not a sweet ride like a Focus.

Look What I Found!!!

This is the most important information you are going to get all day! You may want to sit down for this one. Did you know that Aldi sells candy? Gifts from God are everywhere!!! And it is some of the best candy that I have ever had. It was only $.25! I know, a quarter! They are made in Austria and come in dark chocolate too. Amazing!
Aldi also has a new tool. It's a meal planner and it will help you make a grocery list. I thought it was fun just to see what it would come up with.

Part of the Process?

Life is good. Well at least, that is what my dad would always say, I'm not sure if I'm a believer or not.
Poor, poor Miss Anna. Her exact words were, "I'm trapped in Hell." To be honest, that is not what a parent wants to hear. And to be super honest, that is not what a parent wants to hear when they are trying to pay $20,000 a year for college.
Little Banana is not adjusting so well. Just flipping perfect! She loves the campus and her classes. She actually likes school work and is one of those kids that will ask a teacher for help and then just hang out for a while. She wants to become a teacher and this is her way of seeing what the "life" is all about. She had a very hard time in junior high. She was bullied and beaten on. It was a bad time for all of us. But she had a wonderful teacher take her under his wing and help her through it all. Mr. Hinkel is a gift. And she has decided to be a teacher in junior high to help other kids. She was a student teacher this summer and helped with special needs kids. She loved it. I know that things can change and she can switch majors but I doubt it.
Anyways, back to the story. Anna and her roomy aren't on greatest terms. I actually feel sorry for Anna's roommate because she has no one that cares. I've tried to explain this to Anna. And Anna said "you live in this mess and deal with all of the guys." Anna has found out by being at EIU that she is actually very clean compared to everyone. She always thought that she was dirty because of all of my nagging. But compared to college students she is spotless. Oops. And from all that I've seen, she is living in the movie "Animal House." All of which is not going over so well.
One lovely, and long Friday night she called VERY upset because the buses weren't running and she couldn't get home. The word hysterical is a good word to describe the phone call I got. Sooooooooo, I drove 8.5 hours round trip to get her. Yes, right through rush hour traffic in Chicago on a FRIDAY! And then drove her back on Sunday. She better take good care of me in my old age!
The good news is the buses are running and will bring her within an hour of us for $50 round trip. I'm hoping that she will settle in and find her way. She also told me that she has been hanging out with a church group that is very involved with the college. So let me get this straight, you leave for college and don't go wild, you go to church. Hmmmmm, what kind a bad influence were we on the kids. Go to college and find Jesus. We are heathens.
I never would have guessed that she would have missed us. I figured that she would have started partying and failed classes. Not being home sick and going to church.
This is going to get expensive if she comes home every weekend but I would never tell her no. My guess is she will settle in and this will pass. I never would have thought that she would want to be with us. We will just find a way to make it all work. She also said that she can't work for a little bit. Panic. She is miserable and can't. We had an adult conversation(who knew) and she said that she is on overload. She has enough cash to get her through the first semester so I will let it go. She said she wants to resolve her roommate issues, find her classes and just get used to it. It makes sense but I still have the job of worry about the money. Den and I talked and in the end decided that she has to put school work first. Next semester, I'll just come unhinged. She even thinks that she can get a full time job for the summer through a friend and is going to look into that also. College is nothing more than worrying for the parents!
So if you leave me a comment and I don't answer, its cuz I'm driving,
