Fabulous Friday!

This is the Halloween edition of Fab Friday! We need to start working on this one now. I have a plan for us.
I was poking around Better Homes and Gardens, Halloween pagesAnd I found this mirror project!!
I bet we could easily find a cheap mirror at a garage sale now and have it done before Halloween. Poor Den has so many projects to do since I have started Fabulous Fridays.
Have a Spooky weekend,
Sonya Ann

The Ramblings of an Idiot

I'm starting to get back into the swing of things. YAY! Anna is all settled in and DJ is back in school. I have two Juniors, one in college and one in high school. I'm old!
This was a crazy and exhausting summer. It wouldn't have been so bad except that I had to drive DJ to Six Flags and it ate up 2 hours of my day up to 6 days a week. But he did end up with 4 months car insurance and a bunch of new parts for his paint ball gun. He said he might go back next year, Anna said the same thing. I'm trying to convince DJ to work at the water park with Anna. Since the water park is only open from 11am-7 pm they could ride together. I'm sure no one will listen to me. Anna said she is first going to try and get a full time job at school next summer. Since we will be paying rent year round, she thinks it is silly to move home. We shall see what happens. Just as long as everyone is working, I'll stop nagging. Haha, probably not.
Since I know that you can't live with out my updates, I got another $3 from Pinecone. Now don't you feel better!
So here is what we have,
 My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $54
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $250
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
For a grand total of------$1006.93
I'm happy with that!
Have a great day,
Sonya Ann

New Attitute

So it has been brought to my attention that we will not be moving anytime soon. The thing that brought this to my attention was our bills. Darn them.
Den and I had always hoped to move up house wise but maybe we should be thinking more about moving down after the kids are out of college. I don't know. I'm not usually wishy-washy about our lives but I'm not sure what to do. So we are going to try to connect with this house and make it a home. We have never really left our mark here. This house has been more like trying to fix someone's screw up or find a way to deal with a mess that we have uncovered than trying to make it a home.
When we first moved in every inch of this house was covered in WALLPAPER! In the kitchen alone there were 4, yes 4, different wallpapers and borders. Everywhere you looked there was wallpaper and forest green carpet. I'm color blind and I could see that it was a disaster. So I embarked on pulling down wallpaper for a very long time. I painted all of the walls off-white. I think we are at the point where we can add some color. I think we are going to get an interior decorating book and go from there. Yes, I need help with this.
A lot of our furniture needs to be replaced so I'm going to repaint and then replace things slowly.  I have big plans people now all I need is big money!
We also have a bunch of things to do outside too. I'm trying to convince Den that we should do as much as possible before Vegas. Actually, it's more like bribery.

That is our neighbor's ugly ass fence. And that is the bird-bath that the raccoons like to tip over. I think the fence needs to come down. It's his fence and he is kind of a brute so he will probably put up a fight and we will put a new one next to it. Then he will decide that he likes it and take the old one down. He will also report us a few times. That's what he likes to do. Other than that we actually get along with them. Well, the other day he said he was taking OUR fence down around our pool because he wanted to open the backyard up. Ummmm no, we legally have to have a fence around the pool. If we come up with the money for a new privacy fence, the police will be here. Remember me saying this. No but really, we do get along with them.
This is the pea gravel around the pool. Weeds thrive here. And if you look closely, you will see white lines all over. That would be baking soda-it is supposed to kill everything. All it did was dust my feet white. They were gritty and slick when I wiped them off. The weeds are still thriving.
I would also like to put in a new shed and make it an oasis. That is a very far off dream. We do need to work on the shed though and we need to be quick about it because the carpenter ants have claimed it as their own. We may go to court.
And last but not least, this is the very back of our lot. It is right behind the pool. We are planning on weeding and tearing out some of the trees. The neighbors behind us don't take care of their yard. It's nice that the green wall of weeds keeps us from having to look at them. I would also like to point out the obvious-if they would would use a weed whacker on their side we wouldn't have to spend hours trying to clean out the fence.
So we are going to try and reconnect with our house just not the people that live around us! I'll take more pictures if when we get it done.
Maybe it would be easier to move,

Fabulous Friday!

Ohhhhhh Heaven! I was poking around Pinterest and the Dollar Store Mom introduced me to the idea of using a wine bottle instead of a watering globe. Mark, wine boxes will not work, don't get excited.
And then I hit the mother load! Organizers for the back of your van!!! Oh dear God, I feel faint.
Have a great and organized weekend,

Christmas Carol Fund

I've been doing pretty well finding free money for Christmas and Vegas. Just opening the "junk" mail seems to be really helping. I got $200 from Chase just for opening a checking account.
I just got a flyer from Energy Plus. They are a new electricity supplier. If I changed from our current supplier to them, they would give us $75 after 2 months service. They would also give us  3% cash back on the supply portion of our bill every 12 months. There are no enrollment fees, monthly fees, switching fees, or cancellation fees. And they are about 10% lower than ComEd. I like to read the fine print, what can I say.
So the $75 will be going into the Christmas fund and the 3% will be added to the fund next year. I like setting up things like this to fund Christmas Future and Christmas Present.
Thanks for stopping by,
Sonya-Glad I wore my pretty dress-Ann

2 Parter-Part 2-Great title, I Know

This adorable young lady is Becca, Anna's new roommate. They were jumping and squealing a lot. It was cute. Don't tell Anna I said that.
The girls have assured me that this is the best place EVER. I'm not sold. While I like the fact that it is right next to the school and used school security, $775 seems a bit high for a place that needs to be painted and has water damage, oh and stained carpets, and mattresses that I'm sure were picked up from the curb. Never mind, I'll stop here.
I LOVE Becca's parents. LOVE! I started seeing all the things that were wrong and needed to be pointed out to the landlord/management company. Becca told me that she had all of the paperwork for her and Anna to sign off on. Especially the paperwork on pre-exsisting damage. Ummm yeah, hand it over. Becca's dad got to it first and was more critical than I was! I didn't even know that was possible. He was scathing! I've never turned a problem over to anyone before but he even took PICTURES! And he found things that I missed. Bless him. Oh and landlord/management company are coming in to look everything over.
This is there lovely living room. It's cute and Becca spent the summer making the jean pillow and the Coca-cola pillow. They are adorable. The pillows and the girls.
These are the towels in their shared bathroom. Mark is probably screaming at the computer and gouging his eyes out over the pink and zebra print.
I think it will grow on me.
And the rest of it in all its glory.
Anna had to send me pictures of her room. We stayed too late and she had to finish on her own.
And Sluggy was right. The casino called. We passed by HorseShoe Casino in IN. Well not really passed by it. We took the scenic route. FYI-They are tight as hell there.
We are planning on taking a trip down there soon so I'll snap better pictures. Den told her he was going to get piss drunk and pass out naked in her front lawn. She said he wouldn't be the first person to do that.
I have to say that I really like her porn chair. It looks better in her room than in the game room here. And Den was happy since the futon didn't fit in her room, he will probably be getting that one for the game room.
And each bedroom has its own sink. For that much money a month, it better clean itself!
Thanks for letting me bore you,

2 Parter

I'm breaking this mess into two part. Riveting, I know.
I took a bunch of pictures before we left. I know I'm behind on posting them but don't feel bad, I behind on everything!

Just to add a bit of fun to our journey, Anna's head light went out before we left. So the night before we were going to leave, Den gave Anna a crash course on how to change a light bulb(there is a joke in there somewhere). I think it is sweet how he always shows her how to take care of her car. As you can tell, Anna is just overjoyed with this lesson. Her expression makes me laugh.
Anna being Anna spent the last two days home, visiting friends and saying good bye. I tried to point out the fact that both of these lovely ladies ARE CLOSER TO HER SCHOOL and SEE HER MORE THAN WE DO.
The lovely girl sitting in the van is Sara and the girl on the ground is Jessie. I love them. They call me, Mamma Applesauce. Get it?
I told Anna that she wasn't going anywhere the night before we had to leave because we were going to pack. So she invited them over. It's ok though. They helped carry some of Anna's super heavy junk supplies out.
I would have packed them too but there wasn't even room for air when I got done.
God only knows what we are going to do when we have to drag everything back. If she buys anything else even a speck of dust, the car will collapse.
This was the $.80 tv that Anna got from the goodwill. It weighs 387 pounds. My back will remember that for a very long time.
This is what the other side of her car looked like. And I know this will be hard to believe but we also got my mother in law in her car too. Poor woman.
I proved I'm white trash while me and the stuffed to the gills van were haulin' ass down I57.
My tetris skills are amazing.
It is just ridiculous what I did to my poor van. I hypermiled it down there. I got 25.5 MPG. That is better than I get in town. I know I exceeded the weight limit of the van so I was super careful driving and only flipped the ac on when it was a straightaway. On the way back, I drove normally and with the ac on and got 23.4 MPG. Hmmmm, maybe I should drive around like white trash just to save money.
Oh and the futon didn't fit in Anna's room so I hauled it back. Oh joy.
Off to ice my spine,

Fabulous Friday!

I found it!!!! I'm excited, are you? I now know what we will all be doing this weekend. Well we will be redoing our yards just as soon as we come up with a ton of cash. This is a shed!!!!! Do you feel the itch to change your yard? Now go here! I know-crazy right!
We are going to be busy this weekend! Not really, but a girl can dream.
Have a great weekend,

Girl's Night in box

I feel like I'm neglecting you terribly. Forgive me! DJ is back in school and Anna is moved in to her new apartment. Yay, maybe I can relax a bit.
Anyways, I repurposed the Bad Day Box. That was the little box that I filled with goodies in case she had a bad day. Her roommate at the time was cause for many a little gifts to be opened.
I have a stash of little gifts such as nail polish and hair-ties. All things that I have gotten super cheap or free. Be proud, be very proud.
I gathered some nail polish, make-up, mud masks, a card game, little paint kits, and a $10 Subway card and put them in the box. I figure that Anna and her roommate Becca will have some fun nights doing their toes and facials, thanks to the girls' night in box.
Anna and Becca were roommates last year in the dorm so having an actual apartment will be like going from living in a closet to a palace.
And there is no alcohol in the girl's night in box. I'm mean like that.
Have a great day,
Sonya Ann

Well Mark will be happy to know that I now have a camera. He won't have to smash his face against the computer anymore.
MY SIL gave it to us a while ago. I just now got around to figuring out how to use it.

Now that I have a camera, you can really understand how bad the conditions around here really are.
Anna's room closely resembles a storage unit.
This is what Anna looks like after I nag for a while that the disorder is going to kill me.
This is the night table that Anna is making for her room. It was only $3.99 at the Goodwill. The paint was $14 but who is counting. It was an ugly brown before. She also wants a hot pink futon for her room. So it will have a teal night table and bedding. A porn chair and a hot pink futon. As long as she is happy. Oh and I almost forgot, the bathroom stuff is zebra and hot pink. I'll take pictures! Or maybe I shouldn't!
We are going to load up the van tonight and head out early in the morning. I won't be around so send good vibes my way for the trip. Maybe send some strong vibes my way-this stuff is heavy as hell.
Have a great day,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday!

I found another fun site for us to spend the weekend! Yay, us! It's called Wobisobi. Maybe the title has a special meaning, I don't get it. I'll poke around some more there and see if I can't unlock its secrets!

Bell's Are Ringing

It may seem like I am picking on my children this week. I am not. I'm smarting off left and right because well, I'm a bit sick of them. It is the end of the summer and I'm run ragged with trying to organize everything they need. The people that I live with aren't smart enough to know that they are causing a huge catastrophe for the person next in line by not replacing an empty toilet paper roll, there is no way they will remember pencils.
The more I am around children the more I have begun to decipher their language. Girl speak goes a little something like this, "drama, whine, cry." Boy speak goes like this, "blank stare, grunt, fart."
Girls will also throw themselves on you and cry until your shirt is wet. Boys will just punch you in the arm. I prefer the punching. There I have cracked the kid code. I wonder if I will get a Nobel prize.
On with the story......................................
I tried to give DJ a hug the other day. He shrugged me away and gave me a push. He has told me before that hugging kills his soul. Whatever. So I said, at least give me a smile if I'm not going to hug me. He said he was unable to smile. I told him I forgot that he couldn't smile because he had bell's palsy.
Evil, evil, evil,

When Good Texts Go Bad

Oops. Yes, that is how I would like to start this little post. My poor children have seen and heard too much.
Where to start, where to start?
DJ is now the proud owner of a driver license. And we didn't have to bribe anyone!(In Illinois it's possible to pay for a license just so you know! It doesn't always work out for those involved but it is common here. ;p) He passed with flying colors.
I don't pray in public very often but when the man took him out to test him, I have to admit I prayed. I wasn't praying that DJ would pass, I prayed that they would live. DJ scares me and I don't care if the state of Illinois thinks that he is good enough to be on his own in a vehicle, he will get small doses of freedom. Trust me, it is best for the public that I do this.
I drove us home(again I still don't trust the boy to drive me) but before we left the parking lot, I sent a mass text to everyone that he had his drivers license.
Whenever I drive, I always have the passenger read my texts to me and respond. Feel free to groan and say, oh shit. My texts are normally at a PG rating so I never worry about what my friends say or who reads them.
First to respond via text was Den. He had no idea that DJ would be reading OUT-LOUD what he sent. Den's exact text was, "I don't fucking believe it! It's got to be some sort of joke the DMV is playing on us. No one in their right mind would ever give him a license to drive a car."
Next was from Den's best friend, Steve. He is also the hubs of my BFF. He said, "Tell him congrats................Holy Mother of God what have you let him do..............:"
Hmmmmm, maybe I shouldn't let people read my text messages.
I told Anna what happened and she laughed. Then she told me an even worse story about reading someone else's text messages to them. Her roommate was helping her mother get ready for a party they were hosting. While her mom was getting ready, the mom asked her daughter to read her text messages to her. The mother's BFF texted and said that she was going to be late to the party because she was "getting a quicky."
Would you let me read your texts,
Sonya Ann

Wicked Mom of the West

Well not really the West-how about the Midwest? Have I ever told you how much I love my children? I do love them I just feel the need to be honest with them at times. They have said that my honesty cuts them to the soul. They exaggerate greatly, it just stings a little.
Anna is done with her 6 Flags job. She ended up being able to work almost 40 hours a week by the end of the summer. This was only because so many people had quit. Gee, I wonder why.
She is still short on the money that she needed to earn but ended up with more than I thought she would. She has already started applying for jobs by EIU. That made me feel better.
Here is the part of the story where I am really going to confuse you-my skin color is a light mocha in the winter. Feel free to ask yourself, why I threw that one in there. I get very dark in the summer and even when I "lighten up" it ain't white. I have no idea why I'm this color. No one seems to know either. Anna on the other hand, is a pasty white girl. I have said that she borders on being clear. When she was little no one thought that she was mine, they always thought that she was my MIL's daughter. They were both very white and blond. My MIL loved the fact that she looks young enough to be Anna's mom. I have offered to give her Anna many times. She laughs-I was not kidding.
We have now learned something new about Anna-she does not turn my color after spending a summer in the sun. She is ORANGE. She never used any tanning lotions and stopped using sun block after a while. And yes, I told her to use it but she didn't.
I'm not kidding either-its straight up ORANGE. And it is uneven. People are starting to ask questions. Because she had to wear a hat all day, she now has what she likes to call a "tan beard." It's like she rubbed cheap instant-tan-in-a-can on herself and missed a shit-load of spots. Her face and feet need some help.
She is hoping to fade fast!
I'm off to pack the orange one,
Sonya Ann

A Frugal Fail

I did something a little bad, no wait Den and I did something bad. Oh Hell who am I kidding, let's just blame him. I'm glad that we agree.
Before we get into the part where we all agree that it's Den's fault, I got another $25 from BP. So I have made this much money........................
My Points $25 (gift card)
Send Earnings $27.94
Pinecone $51
Toluna $80
Amazon Gift card $100(won)
BP $250
HHGregg Visa cards $469.99
For a grand total of------$1003.93
And here is the part that we have shamed ourselves. I received a lovely little card/advertisement from Chase. Open a new checking account and get $200 free! It took all of 45 minutes to earn that money. I wish I could do that all day long. I would love to say that I will be throwing that into the Christmas fund. Here is where you need to start sighing in disbelief and shaking your head- it is going into the Vegas fund. We haven't spent any of the money that Den won except for the massive tv that he bought. We need to bulk up that fund because we are going again in September. We never do stuff like this-EVER! But it seems like we should reinvest the money in Vegas, you know, let it roll. It's a free trip and things like this never happen to Den and I. I'm taking it as a gift from above and enjoying it. If we come back with $200, I'll put it in the Christmas fund and we will pretend that this conversation never happened.
