We Stink Pretty

I saw a post over at Holy Cricket on how to refill your plugin wallflower. I love those things but only get to us them after Christmas because I usually get a gift card and they are on sale. But no more!
All you have to do is pry the plastic top off of the glass jar and refill it one-third of the with essential oil and the rest water. I used tangerine oil cuz that's all I have. Oh and use a knife to pry the top off, don't try and pull it off with your teeth. Only an idiot would do that!
Put it all back together and shake. It smells amazing. It separates but doesn't seem to effect the scent. I love a good frugal hack!

$5 Apocalypse

Do I think that the $5 apocalypse is coming? Yes, I do. Am I scared? Nope, well maybe a little.
I think that gas will eventually hit $5 a gallon. It is just a matter of time. And living in the Chicago-land area means I'm at ground zero.
I think I am like everyone else, I try really hard to be careful with our money and do the best that I can-most of the time. I slip off of the frugal wagon here and there. Hell, sometimes I jump off that rickety old wagon. It's not fun to pinch pennies all the time.
But I think that $5 a gallon gasoline is going to have a lot of people chasing after that damned cheap old wagon. And it isn't so much the extra money that you spend at the pump that really gets you, its how everything else goes up with it.
We all know the drill. You look at everything that you are spending money on and then cut it out or cut it back. Been there and done that.
I also like to brush up on the basics. Some people reread their favorite romance novels or sci-fi books. Nope, give me a good book on saving money and I'm a happy girl. I have been going to Grocery Budgeting 101 for a refresher course too.
It's funny how when I first started writing this blog and trying to really cut back, I came up with an unemployment budget. Now our monthly budget very closely mirrors what I thought was an emergency budget back in the day. Are we in an emergency now? No, in fact we are doing much, much better than we were before. Den has a good, stable job and we are all so thankful but a lot of this is because I decided to cut back on everything that we didn't need. It has been quite an experience. Am I done learning? Never.
I will continue to look at our spending and try to find interesting ways to cut back. And I will probably bore you with all of my victories and some of my debacles.
Join me on the frugal wagon,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

Repeat after me, "I want to be fat." Now you are ready!
I popped over to Chronicles of a Domestic Dilettante and found these wonderful Apple pies baked in the apple. There is no hope for me! I could search out some healthy recipes but then what fun would that be.
Having a fat weekend,

Most Boring Post

Not much is going on in my life. And I always see that as a good thing. But it isn't a good thing when it comes to my sorry little Christmas fund. I haven't had any money come in. Yuck.
The only good thing that I can say is that I have almost $10 saved up in Swagbucks for Amazon gift cards. Mind you, I'm not counting it until I actually have the codes but I'm still working towards more money. I just don't  have anything, at the moment, to add to the total.
Yup, this is the sorriest post ever. I have money that I'm not adding to my fund.
Run to a more interesting blog,
Sonya Ann

Weird Wednesday

It is getting a bit weird for me around here-even by my standards.
This was the conversation that I had with Den the other day.
Den-"Did you do laundry today?"
He looked confused so I had to ask.
Den-"Well there was a sock in the toilet."
I guess a sock in the toilet means that I have done laundry in the crapper. I'm not sure.
Anyone wondering what I feed these people,

Fly'em High

This is a picture of a nasty old hand towel hanging in my nasty old laundry room. Our laundry room is deplorable. I hate it in there so to compensate I spend a lot of time in there. ;p That room is on the To Do List.
I like to clean, I really do. I'm one of the few people that don't mind it. I have passed this strange obsession on to Anna, I'll have you know. She finally found a job! She is cleaning empty apartments. And she will be able to work there all summer. Boo. I will miss her.
Anywho, I saw a tip on Pinterest. Yes, I know I am spending too much time there. If you soak a towel in your favorite fabric softener and hang it to dry, your entire house will smell clean. I love a good cheat when it comes to cleaning. This works very, very well! The house smells amazing. And when it stops smelling, you can spray it with water and it will smell good all over again. Or you can use it as a dryer sheet. Awesome!
I love my boys. But they smell from time to time. I'm thinking about stringing together a few of these soaked towels and hanging them like flags in the game room or DJ's room. It will look like a used car lot but I'm ok with that.
Thanks for coming to see me,
Sonya Ann

Frankenstein Day

Today is a combination of a wicked Wednesday and a Fabulous Friday. Drink more coffee and you will soon understand.
Pic stolen from Refashionista.;p

I'm so in love with Jillian's site Refashionista. She is amazing and so inspiring. She takes nasty old clothes and turns them into something impressive. I have read every single one of her posts. Yes, every single one of them.
So that was the Fabulous Friday part but where is the wicked Wednesday part, you ask. You really shouldn't ask.
Jillian sent me over to Regretsy. I thought about trying to sew and make us clothes. And then I saw what was for sale over at Regretsy and decided that I probably couldn't do as well. I'm not sure.
And I'm sure that I have wasted a ton of you time and it is only Monday!!
Have a mash-up day,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I swiped this picture from So, How's It Taste. I'm so doing this. I hate when people double dip. It freaks me out. YUCK! And this would put an end to it and I wouldn't have to be secretly upset anymore when I saw someone do it.
Please say you aren't a double-dipper,
Sonya Ann

Happy Valentine's Day

I know that Valentine's day is supposed to be all sticky sweet.
 All love and hugs.
I'm just not very good at it.

It quickly develops into something creepy and wrong.
And then it just gets down right mean.
I need to find a way to show my love and not scare anyone.
Off to shave my chest for Den,
Sonya Ann
PS-For a real love story, go here and visit Donna Freedman! Yup, she was keeping a huge secret from us! Naughty girl!

Wicked Wednesday

So I'm not giving you a link today, I got something a little more naughty. It's a conversation that I had with Den. You have been warned.
Me-"I think the internet is out."
Den was walking away, turned and asked, "Did you say your testicles are out?"
Me-"Yes Dennis, I like to air out my balls every night!" Then I yell, "The internet is out!"
I guess 40 is the new 80. I should probably start saving my money for hearing aids.

Freezin' and Poor Parenting

Think back to a time long, long ago. Are you thinking? Good cuz I'm not.
Do you remember our icky old freezer?
Say goodbye to that wonderful and mangled freezer and say hello to our upgrade.....................
 Ain't she a beaut, Clark?

I know most people envy other people's homes and cars. But I envy other people's freezers. Live in a mansion-I don't care. Have a hell of a freezer and I'm seething with envy. But not anymore!
Hey look, pizzas were on sale.
And I got $170 in free coupons for free food and products for buying the freezer from Jewel. Yup, I rock!
I had a little bit of money left over and it went into Anna's 21st birthday party fund. I really do have a fund for everything. I would like to say that the money will be going to something healthy and educational. But I have failed again as a parent and we are taking Anna to the casino. It's ok though, her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins are going to make sure that it is a sober and educational trip.
Happy all the way around,
Sonya Ann

Little Money

I don't think that I have posted a better picture on my blog yet. It's so second grade.
I'm slowing down on the free money. Don't panic, right? I'm not, I will save that for June-ish.
I got another $3 from Pinecone Research and $5.74 from Bank of America. They have something like Mr. Rebates/My Points now. Just log on to your account and shop through their site. I thought that I would give it a try. They credit your account when the purchase clears. It's a meh, its not the greatest site but they did pay me on a rental car for Den so I'll search their site if all else fails. It's just not well laid out but free money is free money and I'll take it.
So far we have.......
$49.40  BP
$5         free check from
$12       Pinecone research(surveys)
$75       Energy Plus(electricity rebate)
$80       Jewel(bonus for buying gift cards)
$5.74    Bank of America Add it up(Like Mr.Rebates/My Points)

$227.14 for Christmas 2013.
I dropped out of the Energy Plus program so I won't be getting anymore rebates from them. The city of Antioch switched electricity carriers and got our electric for almost half of what I was paying. It isn't often that the city actually negotiates a better deal than I do and one that benefits us.Rude but so true.
I have to go through my list but I think that I am just going to send gift cards in the Christmas cards instead of gifts to quite a few people. It is going to be more expensive but will make Christmas much more enjoyable for me. But in the end, it will depend if I can get some cheap gift cards. Let's hope Jewel comes through for me.
And the only thing that I have purchased so far is 3 boxes of Christmas cards. I paid a whooping $.75 for them. Nothing says holiday spirit like a cheap card from the Goodwill. I'm just reeking of holiday spirit. The cards were new and still in the original box so the cards don't reek just me.
Gag-happy holidays-gag,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

Organize and decorate everything, Rocks!
I'm not saying we have to make these. Fine, I am saying we have to make these. I'm thinking thrift store and a hot glue gun!
Organize and Decorate everything is turning into a wonderful time suck. Should I say sorry or you are welcome?
Have a great weekend,
Sonya Ann

Boo, Hiss

This picture really makes me laugh. I still have issues.
And I understand that no one really wants to hear about Christmas this soon after the holidays. So I have devised a plan. Someone give me enough money to cover my Christmas presents and I will shut up about it.See I'm always using my noodle.
No takers? Fine then I will continue to bore you with the little pittance that I have gathered. Pinecone Research sent me $3 and BP sent us $27.46.
So far we have.......
$49.40  BP
$5         free check from
$9         Pinecone research(surveys)
$75       Energy Plus(electricity rebate)
$80       Jewel(bonus for buying gift cards)

$218.40 for Christmas 2013. Mind blowing, I know.

Lost and Naked

There have been plenty of times where I have felt or been made to feel inferior because I am a stay at home mom. I will even point out the fact that I have a 21 and 17 year old. And then something happens to remind me that it is ok to be me and have my job.
About a month ago, Den had to go to Texas to train some people at their sister company. I'm proud of him and I tell him. He was given flight times and a print out. He knew that a hotel was booked but didn't get the paper for that. He also wanted a rental car.
About three days before he left, he became...................hmmmm how do I say this.............pissy. Den is pretty easy going so even when he is a grouch, it is tolerable. I, on the other hand, am not tolerable at times. But he was stepping it up a notch even by my standards.
And then it dawned on me, I take care of everything when we travel. Hell, I take care of everything all the time. And now he was on his own. I know that some would see this as a valuable training lesson. giggle. But it is my job to organize the family(as Den puts it, I would say browbeat them into submission) so I took over for the poor man. I rented the car and added all the addresses to the GPS. I put all the info on his flights, room, and car in his phone. I also set everything out that he would need to pack.
Once I took over, the stress left him. All he had to do was get up and drive to the airport. I had even found out where he had to go to catch the bus to get to the car rental place.
Sometimes, I forget how lucky I am to have this job. CEO and Organizer. And I love how I feel when I make their lives easier. I really am blessed. And so are you because if I didn't take care of these people they would be lost and naked. This is a site you really don't want to see. I'm speaking from experience.
Keepin' people clothed,
Sonya Ann

A Day Late

I'm always a day late and a dollar short. Well this time I am a month late and $1,378 ahead. And no I'm not pregnant. That would be hell, wouldn't it? To have a 21 year old, a 17 year old and a baby. I think that I would do a giveaway. Any takers? I'm kidding, maybe.
How do I always manage to fly off on a tangent? Wait that is how I live my life. Again I will try to have a point, I started doing the 52 week challenge. I saw it on facebook-I think that it was Debbie that first pointed it out to me. Thank you kindly, lovely lady.
We completed week 5 and I have $15 saved. I think this is a great way to get people to get in the habit of saving. The only problem that I see with this challenge is that people are needing to save the most amount of money at Christmas time. That might be a bit rough. It breaks down to $26.50 a week and that might be a better way to save for some. I'm going to follow the challenge as directed.  I'm hoping that I will have our Christmas prepaid again and won't have to worry about coming up with the money for this and Christmas. But for people that aren't savers, this would probably be enough to pay for their Christmas if they charged their gifts. Just a thought. But then again if they aren't savers, they probably won't try this.
Anyways, I was wondering if there was anyone out there that was doing the 52 week challenge or if there was anyone that wanted to join me?
Again not preggo,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I have nephews! I think I have said that before. And I bet they would love these. Anna probably would too. Gloves are on clearance now so I think I will keep my eyes open. Maybe the next time Anna is home, we could make a few pairs. She said that she probably wouldn't be coming home for the summer so we will have to make all of the crafts over a weekend. Sad.
If you are interested in making the most awesome gloves the world has ever seen, go visit Martha Stewart. Or you could just use this link.
Have a great weekend,
Sonya Ann
PS-Happy Birthday to my Anna girl. Happy 21st birthday! Don't do anything that I would do-EVER!
