Quick and Easy Noodle Salad

Running late for a picnic/BBQ/any kind of gathering. This is an awesome and quick side dish. And you can have it together in the time that it takes to cook the noodles!

1 box(16 oz) of noodles
1 1/2 cups chopped celery
3 chopped green onions
1 bag of bacon bits
1 bottle of Ranch dressing
1 1/2 to 2 cups Mayo
Smidge of pepper

Cook and cool the noodles and dump everything else in a bowl and mix. TADA, you are done! I get so many compliments on this noodle salad and its so simple.
Off to eat,

Grammy Sonya

Did you panic when you saw the title? I did when Anna let me know that I was a grandma. Well, sort of. She was kind enough to include a picture of my grandchild or should I say my grandcat.
Her and her friends were off on another adventure and it seems this cute little guy was in the middle of the road. I would like to think that he just wandered off from somewhere and that no one dumped him in the middle of the road. Anna said that he was in good shape just young. They are bottle feeding him.
I also learned that my dear daughter is willing to give away her first offspring. The new place that she is moving into doesn't allow pets. One of her friends has her own house and will be keeping him.
She also named my grandson-Sue. She likes Johnny Cash.
So Anna is a bad mom and chooses names like a famous person for her kid. Or maybe she is a great soul and I should be more proud of her today than yesterday. Please remind me of this the next time she pisses me off.
Grandma for a nanosecond,

Fabulous Friday

Our lettuce consumption is through the roof  this year much to the dismay of the boys in the house. When they complain I say, "It's good for you, it will make you poop." Yes, I really say that. I need to learn to edit myself in the real world and on my blog. It probably won't happen.
I'm thinking we need to have something like this on the side of the garage for next year. Den wasn't sold on the lettuce in the gutters thing. Maybe he will like this a bit more. He wants to put in another garden behind the pool. I'm not sold on that one. It's too hard to drag a hose over the deck and around part of the pool to get to anything back there. And guess who would be doing all of the dragging of the hose?
I like this idea much better!
Not Sold,

STD Plants

So what's going on at the Mott house, you ask? The normal summer grind. Pool work and yard work. DJ is getting on my nerves and we have to move Anna this weekend. She is moving into a townhouse. She is going to be a senior. God, that is hard to believe. And DJ is going to be a senior in high school. I'm old and almost free. LOL.
Anna is going to have to take an extra semester to graduate. But she keeps telling me that having a dual certificate in education is worth it. She is also going to be staying for her Masters. I'm proud of her. But we will have two in college at the same time. Sigh.
And now you know why I stress over $20 here and there. The good thing is Anna will be able to get her Master for close to free if she stays at EIU. We all decided she would stay!
So here is what is going on around the house.

Or should I say this is the house. LOL
The flower bed that Den laid to with fertilizer and melted slightly, recovered. And my favorite pot on the front step is doing well even without all the fertilizer.

My morning glories are just starting to climb. This will be so pretty and will cover the ugly fence in front. I'm not holding my breath though. We all know my track record.

I've been trying to bond with the house a bit more and have gotten a few things for the outside.
I got these shelves and pots from garage sales. $4.25 and a couple plants and the house and I are one.

I meant what I said before about feeding my boys more lettuce. I started another pot for them to enjoy. I wonder if Den will over fertilize this pot or if DJ will just pee on it.
This is my little over-grown garden. I love it but Den is complaining about how the dill is taking over. I'll get around to making pickles, I swear.
Here is our little garden that I would look great with some morning glories in back. They are about 3 inches high. By December, the should be about a foot high or dead.
This is the side of the garage. Our tomatoes bounced back after the fertilizer disaster.
See I can grow something. They probably won't ripen but hey, its a start.

And because I am a master gardener, I bought a few packs of seeds and planted them. I have no idea what I threw in the ground. If I had to guess I would say, these are zucchini.  Its a damned shame when you have to guess about something that you, yourself have done.
This is another plant that I am guessing about. I would say that I was making an educated guess but I'm obviously educated about nothing.
I think I planted green peppers. I like green peppers so that would make sense. Right? Did you know there is an APP that you can download to your phone that will tell you what plants you have taken a picture of. I think I need it for my own garden. I wonder if there is an APP for STDs. I have known a few people that this would help immensely.
These are pansies. I'm so proud that I know one of the names of the plants around the yard. Usually, I just describe the plant to Den and he tells me the name. We work as a team once in a while.
See how cute the container is? Again with the bonding.
I love my pool but I spend hours cleaning it. I still haven't received the hot pool boy that I have been wishing for.
A couple of flower pots on the deck. And that's all I've got for you!
Not in need of the STD APP,
Sonya Ann

Alice's Wisdom

You know how I'm always blathering on about saving for Christmas. I may have mentioned it once or twice. Well, here is some good advice if you are planning on cashing in points for Amazon e-cards, write down or print out the actual codes. I did an update on my cell phone and it deleted one of my Amazon emails with the code in it. And yes, I looked in the trash and spam folder. It is really gone. I'm going to contact Star Savings to see if they still have the code but I'm not holding my breath. Damn me, I kept telling myself to write it down.
Simple One,

Fabulous Friday

This awesome tip is from Life on the Balcony. Spray paint ugly plastic pots. This is something that I could do. I couldn't grow a damned plant to go in the pot but I can spray point with the best of them!
Have a great weekend,

Our Girl

We did good. I really believe it takes the village to raise a child and you are my Village People. Oh, oh, oh theme song time!!!! The guy with the mustache kills me. Sorry, I'm really laughing. And listen to the words-how did we not catch what they were really singing about?
Sorry my ADHD kicked in and I got side tracked. Ok back to it, whenever I get a good money saving tip from one of you or a life lesson, I always pass it on to Anna. Does she listen to us? More now than before. But I'm not completely sold on her devotion to us.
Anna sent me this picture. She is moving into a townhouse with her current roommate and one more girl. The three of them bought this table for $50 at a garage sale. They all loved the back of the chairs. See we taught her well.

My Budget's Theme Song

This is a blurry picture of a tablet of paper on the side of my frig. Boring and blurry-that's all I got for ya. On a positive note, I won it from Mama Bonnie. So it was free and its blurry. Honestly, leave now.
I tried tracking our spending on my phone. It worked but it didn't. I would type everything in and then tally it at the end. And I would stress over the number after all was said and done. Like I said, it worked and it didn't.
I have $100 a week for gas for me, DJ and Den. Anna has to pay for her own gas. She still charges on our gas credit card so I get the points but the money comes from her account. I deserve something for all of the account work that I do for this family. ;)
We also have $100 a week for food. We are down to three people now but for some reason I can't get our spending below this. You would think that it would have dropped by $25 when Anna left but nope.
I have $200 a week total and I can borrow from food to pay for gas and vice-versa when needed. If only it worked.
And now I know the problem-I have never had a miscellaneous category in my budget. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it was a stupid move. I always have funds set aside for this or that for the year. But never for the week. I was trying to pull money from the food or gas fund and that was the problem.
A small home repair, the I-pass needs to be replenished,  a picnic, or God knows what else and I was over for the week. It was also stressing me out. I like to accomplish the goals that I set for myself. Unfortunately, my goals and real life aren't in sync. Hey, I think that we need a theme song. Damn, I'll never get that song out of my head.
So I loosened up the purse strings and added another $100 to the week for whatever. This about killed me. But whatever is left, I save. I mean in the end, I was doing the same thing before but I was a lot more worked up about it. Life-ebb and flow. Budget-ebb and flow.
About the same amount is going into savings every week so I'm fine with this and nothing changed. So what did you learn from stopping here? Probably nothing. Or that a piece of paper helped lower my stress level. Or maybe all you got out of this was a song stuck in your head? Yeah, that's it.
Bye, Bye, Bye,
Sonya Ann

Paying Santa

That sounds like something my Grandmother would have said to me. Really. I was kind of bad. She was constantly threatening me with her shoe. I know, you don't believe I could be bad.
Seriously though, she would take her shoe off and shake it at me. I also, climbed a pole they had on the side of their house and sat on the roof when I was 5 or 6. That pole was my sworn enemy and I had been trying to climb it since I was about 3. They decided once I was up on the roof that it was time to take the pole down. Bastards.
And on to more interesting things! I got $6 from Pinecone and $8.40 from Star Savings(rebate program like my points). I have quite a few Amazon e-cards and I don't like having them sitting around. I think that I will use them to purchase something and then pay myself back.  I know, its exciting times people.
So here we are..........

$170.47  BP
$5            free check from magazines.com
$66          Pinecone research(surveys)
$75          Energy Plus(electricity rebate)

Fabulous Friday

I think this would be great for a party. Just collect a bunch of buckets from garage sales and the Good Will add flowers and candles. Now I just need a reason to throw another party, oh wait, I never need a reason. It's like I never want to come in under budget.
Have a great weekend,

Red Alert

Whenever I think of going to red alert, I think of Star Trek. It usually doesn't come to mind when I think of my van.
I imagine Captain Picard saying in a calm and sexy voice, "Red Alert" and then sitting down calmly in the captain's chair. On a side note if I were captain, I wouldn't be calm or sitting down in a crisis. I would be screaming orders and trying to do everyone's job. I would probably have to shove a few people out of their chairs. Because I would trust no one when it came to my life or my ship. I wouldn't be captain for long.

This is the bumper of my beloved van. What does this have to do with red alert, you ask yourself? Reading my blog is an adventure in ADHD, isn't it? Just wait I will get there.

This is a close up shot of my bumper and one of the sensors. Or the lack of a sensor.  My van has sensors for when you back up. It used to go beep, beep if you were too close to something. Did you know that if one of them pops out, the van goes ape shit and you get to listen to the red alert siren until you get out of reverse? Well, if you didn't know-now you do. Guess what I will be buying soon? Trust me, I will be buying it soon because this is flat out maddening!
Sorry, I don't know how this got in here. It is from my personal collection.
Just go back to looking at the captain,
Sonya Ann

Watermelon Tea

I found a way to use up all the leftover watermelon. We just can't eat the entire thing-ever.
I used the stick blender thingy to get all the watermelon chunks to liquid. Then I strained it. I like my drinks smooth-like my pick-up lines. (Do you work for UPS? I could have sworn I saw you checking out my package. Yeah, baby.) Then I froze the juice in little cups so I can add it to my pitcher of tea whenever I want. You may want to cut back a smidge on the sugar though. My first pitcher of watermelon tea was a bit too sweet for me. DJ didn't mind though. And that is as exciting as it gets around here!

Creepy Santa

I'm not sure if having a scary Santa is the way to start the week. Maybe I should go back to the perverted Santa. I have such hard decisions to make.
Now on to the not creepy stuff in my life. I got $7.46 from the Add it up program with Bank of America. I got $25.04 from BP and $3 from Pinecone! I've got enough money to by Santa an e-cigarette.

$60          Pinecone research(surveys)
$75          Energy Plus(electricity rebate)

Fabulous Friday

Since everyone is sober and wide awake, we should make these! Put a five gallon bucket inside of a burlap and then plant something! I think this is something that I can do. My yard is going to be so crowded with crap, errrrr adorable things. Yes, adorable things.
Have a sobering weekend,

I don't know who is in the picture with Santa. I'm just glad it isn't me.
And on to the boring stuff. I got $3 from Pinecone. And I got a $5 Amazon E-card from Recycle Bank. I bet that I get that one.
So this is what I have so far..................

So I have gotten..................
$145.43  BP

New Tupperware Love

This is my shiny new tupperware! It's a cake box. While I will always love and cherish the time that I had with my old tupperware box, the new one is going to have a long relationship with me.
So if you are looking to buy some new containers, I would say start with tupperware because they keep their word and will replace any broken items.
And if you look closely at the little sign in the back ground, it says, "We interrupt this marriage.....to raise children." Den bought this probably 10 or 12 years ago. I loved it. The kids found it quite insulting especially Anna. She will be getting as a gift when she has kids. Hell, I might even give her the tupperware cake box. We will see who I like more at the time, the box or her. Ok, just kidding on that one. Anna is a good kid and I'm sure that she will be worthy of my used cake box.
And that's all I got,
Sonya Ann
