Delinquent Child

When I think about a "bad boy" I often think of Charlie Sheen in Ferris Bueller's day off. I know I am dating myself. He was a rebel and didn't care. Fists in the air screaming, "screw the establishment." I am 41 and fist pumping can now cause pain and I respect the establishment. Being a grown-up is such a bore.
I know that I complain a lot about my children. They cause me problems like so many children. It's their job. I know this and you know this. I am very blessed though. Anna and DJ were/are good kids(not like I would have tolerated anything else). They have always been good students and stayed out of trouble. There have been a few stunts here and there but nothing that was that bad. DJ is in all high honors/AP classes, and a honor roll student and is in tech. He is not a problem or so I thought. DJ got kicked out of school. If Den and I had to have guessed which one of the kids that would have gotten kicked out, we both would have bet on Anna. She had a wild streak.
DJ prides himself on being one of the good kids. He is respectful to his teachers and tries to do well. That is why this is so funny.
At the end of last school year, the nurse sent home a letter saying that DJ wasn't in compliance with the new TDAP shots and that he would be expelled from school his senior year if he didn't get another shot. I called our doctor's office and spoke with the nurse. She assured me that he was compliant. She called the school nurse but she had left for the summer.
The beginning of this year, I got a warning letter. I called the school nurse and couldn't get a return call. So I sent DJ in with a note from me and he tried to explain to her that the nurse from the doctor's office says that he is compliant with the new requirements. She handed it all back and told DJ it wasn't the right shot.
I called and left another message the week before the deadline and BEGGED for a return call so DJ wouldn't get kicked out of school. No return call!
Guess what? They yanked DJ out of class after the deadline had come and gone, sent him to the office and then the office worker was flat out nasty to him for not getting the shot even when he tried to explain the situation. She then asked him which parent he wanted her to call. He said he couldn't help but smile when he said, "call mom" because he knew I would go off.
The conversation with the office worker started off tense, to say the least. I told her the entire story and while she did apologize and take down my number and the doctor's office number, they still sent him home. BUT she promised me a return call at the end of the day. If you guessed that I didn't get a call-YOU WERE RIGHT!
The next morning, I started my day off with a cup of coffee and a call to the principal. He was the only one that tried to straighten it out. He allowed DJ to go back to school and promised that the school nurse would call the nurse at the doctor's office and it would be straightened out ASAP.
In the end, the school was wrong. He never should have been kicked out in the first place, he had had all of his shots. SIGH
I keep calling DJ our delinquent son and a bad boy. He doesn't find this funny-it tarnishes his reputation. When he came home from school after being kicked out, his face was bright red from being angry and a bit ashamed. I couldn't help it, I laughed hard at him. He takes life and his academics VERY SERIOUSLY. He is so straight-laced. I'm not which is why I laughed that he ended up in that situation. My laughing seemed to tick him off more which made me laugh even harder. I'm probably the only parent that would laugh at this. Or maybe you just have to know DJ, he is an 80 year old crotchety man stuck in a 17 year old's body.
Bad mom,

My Love Child

I think I have said before that the running joke between Anna and I is that she is Molly Ringwald's love child. Anna doesn't look like her so much now but when she was little there was something about the pout that reminded me of her.
I got this picture from Anna. Molly Ringwald is going to be at EIU on November 13th. She sings jazz, who knew?
Here is the conversation I had with Anna.....
Anna-"She(Molly or mom) is coming to Eastern!!!!!!!!"
Me-"Well, you will finally get to meet your real mom."
Anna-"I know, I have so many questions!"
Me(laughing)-"Are you going?"
Anna-"I want to!"
Me-"You have to. Are you going to tell her, you are her love child?"
Anna-"Of course, I will. That would be awesome!"
Me-"I think she will probably call security."
Anna-"I would just keep holding on to her!"
We are either funny or crazy. Maybe I shouldn't share as much as I do!
Completely sane,
Sonya Ann

The End Is Near

I'm dragging in all of the pots with dead plants in them. Yuck. As you can see, I don't have much to write about so you get dead plants. Lucky you.
I've got a little bit of basil, green onion, oregano, and parsley. Oh yeah, and some dill. Can't forget the dill! Oh wait and chives. It's pretty slim pickins and we are flirting with freezing temperatures so I won't have them for much longer. Sigh.
I found 3 boxes of wild flowers under the kitchen sink. And I planted them after we cut down the nasty peonies. I always hated having an empty flower bed in the front yard.
And because neither of us have anything better to do, here is another view of the flower bed with the wild flowers.
Not too bad for $3 for 3 boxes of seeds. I will definitely plant them next year.
Goodbye, my pretties.
This pot by the front door looks as if it is going to let itself in soon. I don't blame it really, its cold out.
Are you pulling/putting away all of your plants?
Pulling out the sweaters,

Blah Sonya

I can't seem to get my butt in gear. I'm just a bit blah. I won't say depressed but I have no energy. I think that it is this time of year that does it to me. I hate seeing everything turn brown and die. I try and console myself with the fact that I won't be spending hours in the yard but it doesn't help. Being trapped in the house with two boys doesn't help any, either. Oh well, it will give me more time to clean the house. Yeah, that helped. Maybe I'll make a pot of scrap soup. The smell of something tasty cooking usually brightens my moods.
Oh and I'm fat. I thought that I would share that. The apple diet was ok. I didn't really lose any weight but I did feel an apple boost. Apple boost=more energy. Den promised that I would get the apple poops from all that I ate. It was never a problem. He's so encouraging.
I think that I need to get a treadmill. But something small and cheap. That way if I end up donating it or using it as a drying rack, I won't feel bad about it. Maybe if I do the apple diet and use a treadmill, I wont be blah. Or I could go clothes shopping and get my toes done? You know how cheap I am but getting my toes done is way cheaper than therapy. See and spending money is now justified.

Naughty Christmas Thoughts

I hit the Mother Load! I cashed in all of my points at Bank of America. Yay Me! I got $275!!! And just a reminder, we don't carry a balance on any of our credit cards. We run every bill that we can through our credit cards but pay it off on every Friday.
So there is the new total.....................
$275        Bank of America
$241.25   BP
$5            free check from
$87          Pinecone research(surveys)
$75          Energy Plus(electricity rebate)
$160        Jewel(bonus for buying gift cards)
$13.20     Bank of America Add it up(Like Mr.Rebates/My Points)
$15          AutoZone rebate/visa card
$5            Amazon E-card from Recycle Bank
$8.40       Star Savings(Like My Points/Mr. Rebates)
$125        Golf $$$$$$ Den won
$10           My Points($10 Bass Pro gift card)
$1019.85  for Christmas 2013

I know that I'm probably not going to hit the $1500 mark that I needed last year. I'm already trying to scale back because I really don't want Christmas to cost us any of our cash. I ordered 25 $25 gift cards. I spent a total of $150 on them so that will knock out a big chunk of the gifts that we give. I'm going to send them out with the Christmas cards so I don't have to worry about delivering/postage. It's a win-win.
Den and I talked about it and he said that he was fine with scaling back. We will see if he still feels the same way when Christmas rolls around. He's a spender. I think I have said this before.
Just over 2 months until Christmas-feel free to smack me,

Fabulous Friday

I know that I should probably be thinking about Halloween decorations but I'm already looking for our Thanksgiving day craft. I just need to stress about it some more. And we compete to see who can make the best craft. The guys judge whatever it is we make. Den better pick me!
Happy Friday,

My Little World

I haven't got much for you today. Den has been spending a lot of time in this exact position. He will work out all of the kinks, I swear. Or he swears and like I said before, I bring beer. If you look on top of the car, you will see a can of beer. It's like "where's waldo?" with Icehouse. Anna told me that Icehouse was the bad hand-jobs of beers. Why she thinks its ok to talk to me like this, I will never know?
Anna girl is on the right.
I stole this picture off of Anna's facebook page. Why does it seem that she is always at a bar?
She has decided that she is going to have a dual certificate in education and she will be able to teach elementary and junior high students. She doesn't want to teach high schoolers because they are arrogant and condescending. It took everything in me not to point out that fact that four short years ago she was in high school.
She is super stressed lately and I have to calm her down. I asked her what happened to my fly by the seat of her pants Anna? She said, "she realized that she can't pull shit anymore because it usually blows up in her face." She is such a grown up. Oh and a grown up with my mouth and swear words. Damn.
This is a picture of DJ from last year. I don't take his picture very often. I told him that he is the only kid I know that will graduate from college and will have a job waiting for him. Hey, Six Flags could be a career. He flipped me off. Again, I have no idea where my kids get their sense of humor. His luggage birthday will be here soon, I reminded him. Luggage birthday=18th birthday.
I was so on top of things Anna's senior year. Remember all of the lists that I made so I could collect the things she would need for the dorm. I haven't even started with DJ's stuff. I think he will be getting some of the stuff for Christmas minus the purse. Yes, the list even listed a purse.
The kitten is getting bigger and is still naughty. He does enjoy my coupon clipping though. He runs through all of the scrap paper. How's that for frugal-a free kitten and free cat entertainment?
That's all she wrote,

RIP Mr. Claus

This was mean and funny. And it just made me remember what Anna sent me. Hold on a second, while I go find it.
See that didn't take that long, did it? My daughter is a smart ass. She gets it from Den.
Anyways back to the fun stuff.................
I got $3 from Pinecone research and a $10 gift card for Bass Pro Shop from My Points(I count them as cash).
$241.25   BP
$5            free check from

Scary Cheap!

I love Halloween and I love being frugal. You know this. But I came up with a super cheap way to decorate!!!!
Print some super creepy pictures and slip them into the frames that you already have!
I think this is much more interesting than say, kids school pictures!
Who needs a picture of Grandma when you could have a scary forest picture?
I think this one needs to go in Anna's room? She is the most likely to freak out.
I like it! I may need to keep this one out year round!
Off to take down pictures of my family,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

Now that the summer is over, I found the perfect planter. I think Den would love to make this for me. And I wouldn't mind if he got the house for me too.
Have a great Friday,

Car Guts

Notice, I haven't posted about DJ's car for a while. Sigh.
This is the inside of the motor. While I am soooooo thankful that it is back together and looks like a normal motor, there have been complications. I suppose if Den took my guts out and put them back in with only a help manual, I would have issues too.
He did great and the car started on the first turn of the key. That never happens. Ever. Or so I was told.
It did spray a bit of gas out the side but Den said this was to be expected. I rolled my eyes and he sopped gas with a rag . He got the leak to stop. Yay, because I don't think DJ would have felt real safe driving around holding a fire extinguisher.
Den saved us about $1000 by doing it himself and he used premium parts. Yay Den. But he ended up having to cut the muffler off with a saws-all because a bolt wouldn't come loose. Fine, clamp it back on. Then it started leaking transmission fluid(our driveway looks like someone gutted a small animal with all of the red/pink stains on the driveway) and the check engine light came on. Ahhh, the joys of old cars.
We brought it in and had the muffler properly clamped on and all the rusted transmission lines replaced. That was $291. The check engine light is still on. That is a lovely project for this weekend. He swears and I bring beer. We have a system.
The funny thing is I'm not upset about doing repairs on this car. We have had it for going on 11 years and it has been a champ. Whenever something broke on it, we fixed it and usually tried to use premium parts. We have gotten our money out of that car a few times over. Bless its little rebuilt heart motor.
We have decided that this will be our retirement car. Some like to have a sweet classic car to tool around in during retirement. We will be in a 99 Lumina but hey, it will probably still be running. DJ said it's like having a brand new car since everything is slowly being replaced. Now all we need to do is paint it again. Hey, we are in Illinois, we do car rust like no other.
Rusty and broke,
Sonya Ann

Wicked Wednesday

When I make Christmas cookies this year, I'm going to start with this one first. I think that is the best plan ever. I'm sure Anna and Den wouldn't mind making the cookies without me. I wonder if they would mind cleaning up puke too?
Tequila lover,

Ms Mott's Apple

I think I have said this before but I'm fat. Yes, I said it. And I will probably be saying it after this diet too. I figure I will make it a week, ten days tops.
It's the apple diet. You eat whatever you want as long as you eat three apples a day. Yeah, I know it sounds like a fad diet. And it sounds like a fad cuz it is one. I'm sure that this wonderful diet was started by the apple growers of America or the Mott's company. Right about now I wish that I could say that we were related in one way or another. If this diet takes off, they will make tons of cash. Hmmmmm, I wonder if this could be considered a stock tip instead of a diet.
I'll report back to you if it works. If you hear nothing from me about this diet, well we will just ignore the fact that I am still fat.
Apple Eater,
Sonya Ann
