Fabulous Friday

We are skipping Christmas and going straight to Spring. We have too. I'm done with winter and want this awesome planter! Coming up with a to do list for the Spring is so much better than shopping!
This is from the untrained housewife. It is awesome there. If I say nice things to her, do you think that she will make me one?
Still not calmed down,

Happy Thanksgiving

I hope that you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving. I'm probably cooking and cleaning at a furious pace. We need to come up with a holiday that involves ordering pizza and staying on the couch.
I thought this was a cute picture too.
So who is planning on shopping on tomorrow? I usually never go but I do have a $10 off $10 coupon for Kohls. I hate to let free money go but I hate to fight the crowds for $10. I guess it will depend on how tired I am.
I did that yesterday. But it was homemade Febreeze so its all good.
Happy Turkey day,

Wicked Wednesday

This is too funny and ties in well with Thanksgiving.
Now that you watched it-go make all the trays that you can premake, and a few cookies!

Are You Serious?

This just isn't my year. But I have the feeling from most of the people that I talk to that this hasn't been their year either. If something odd or miserable could crop up, it did and then some.
I was going to rework the budget for this post and then I realized that I didn't want to try and find a way to make things work. Here is a list of what is going on(I may need a straight razor at the end of this).........
  • Anna's car still has to go into the shop for something that the last mechanic should have fixed but didn't want to wait for the part.
  • The apartment complex that she works for is probably going under and it isn't a good work environment.
  • Anna charged diet pills with her debit card months ago. No diet pills but the charges are coming in fast and furious from Belize and other places. Yes, we had a conversation about ordering with a debit card. It took me hours and I still don't have it straightened out. Her debit card has been cancelled but it will be a long road for me to get the cash back. Some people from Bank of America have gone the extra mile to help especially the actual branch in Fox Lake IL. The woman at the call center not so much.
  • DJ's car leaks oil slower. The check engine light is back on.
  • We are losing $1000 deduction on our taxes because DJ turned 17.
  • Den's window is cracking at an alarming rate. He may feel a breeze soon.
  • I got a $314 WATER BILL. For the love of God, what is wrong with them. They said they couldn't read the water meter so they have been guessing at our bill. We tried to have them come out and install a new meter but they didn't return calls. When the guy finally did come out to replace it, he said he thought the bill was right. So I said, then we don't need a new fucking meter and get out. True story. Den took over.
  • I need tires for my van. It buzzes like a MOFO when you back up and creeks. Lovely.
  • We have a posh dinner party to go to and I'm still fat. Eating 3apples a day doesn't do shit.
  • I don't have the cash to pay for the rest of Christmas.
  • The kitten molests only my socks.
  • I need $250 to get the cat fixed and declawed. I like to keep my socks unmolested.
  • the kitten climbs drywall.
  • I want/need new socks.
  • I have been clipping problems that I am working on to the side of the frig. You can't see the frig anymore and it seems like all I do is add to the pile. Nothing is getting fixed.
Hmmmm, bitching about it like this has made me feel better. Thank you. It seems that most of my problems revolve around money. Has 2013 been a sucky year for you?
The complainer,
Sonya Ann

Mott Moonshine

Den is crazy. He looks up recipes and then concocts a plan. I don't roll like that. I think-well shit, I have to feed everyone again.
This time he decided to cook moonshine. Apple pie moonshine to be clear. I'm not a moonshine sort of girl. I'm more of a boone's kind of gal. I reek class.
Here is the recipe that Den started with and then he tweaked it. He added a pinch of allspice, a splash of vanilla and threw in an orange peel while it was boiling. He just can't leave well enough alone.
He also wanted me to tell you to be careful not to get the everclear around an open flame. You have been warned.
We figured that it cost about $25 to make the entire batch. We had quite a bit of what was needed so it was hard to get an exact number. But it does break down to $.18 a shot.
We are going to test it on everyone at Thanksgiving and see what they think. Den wants to give this to a couple of friends for Christmas. I think that he should make amaretto. He is also talking to someone about learning to brewing beer. We are going to need to get an alcohol license soon.
This is a bit strong for my tastes but that being said, it has an amazing taste and really does taste like apple pie. This could be very dangerous. Maybe I shouldn't serve this at Thanksgiving.

Fabulous Friday

I love the idea of making your own ugly sweater. I don't think that I would wear this to Christmas but I bet I could get Anna to were it at school.
And some shocking news, I was in the store last week and there was way too many Christmas things out and I wasn't repulsed. I haven't felt that way since I was a kid. I think it has something to do with the fact that I really am not making a huge deal out of Christmas. We will see how I feel in a month.
Hahaha, I just thought of something-what if the middle finger was sticking up on the shirt.
Just a thought,

Smile Just Cuz

I'm loving Wipeout. Just go here and laugh! It's funny when they fall. And there is nothing that would get me on that show!
And this is the lazy man's snowman. Bahahaha, help I've fallen and I can't get up.

Santa's Hunting

Santa with guns is more likely to get me in the Christmas spirit. It would make Black Friday shopping much easier. Did you know that we have had shootings and stabbings on Black Friday by us? And now you know why I shop on-line.
Now that I have ruined your Christmas spirit, on to the money! I got $6 from Pinecone. It looks as if I will be dipping into our own money very quickly to buy presents. I have the majority of our shopping done and I know what I am getting for the rest. I'm just holding off hoping to get more "free" money. Sigh. I don't see anymore coming in. But I did get a letter from our insurance company that they paid the entire bill for DJ's wisdom teeth not the few hundred that they said they would. I have no idea why. But it is all screwed up at the oral surgeon's office. They can't release the funds until the matter is settled. And I doubt that the dental insurance company, the health insurance or the oral surgeon's office will be in a hurry to get my money back quickly. But it is still nice knowing that there is $711 floating around just waiting to jump in my pocket. Anyways, here are the numbers..................................................
$275        Bank of America
$267.84   BP
$5            free check from
$102          Pinecone research(surveys)
$75          Energy Plus(electricity rebate)
$160        Jewel(bonus for buying gift cards)
$13.20     Bank of America Add it up(Like Mr.Rebates/My Points)
$15          AutoZone rebate/visa card
$5            Amazon E-card from Recycle Bank
$8.40       Star Savings(Like My Points/Mr. Rebates)
$125        Golf $$$$$$ Den won
$10           My Points($10 Bass Pro gift card)
$10           My Points($10 Old Navy gift card)
$1071.44  for Christmas 2013
If I get the insurance refund back in time, should I count it towards the Christmas total? I mean it really is free money because I shouldn't have gotten it back. But I still want to show that everyone can have a free Christmas or super cheap Christmas by saving like this and would this be cheating because not everyone would be able to get an insurance refund? But others might be able to save money in ways that I couldn't. Or should I shut up and do what I want because it's my blog and my choice?

Car Boo Boos

It seems that I am spending a lot of time writing about cars lately. Well about our cars. Honestly, I would be over the moon happy if we got one damned car sorted. Literally, we don't have one car that is ok. None of the problems are major but things just keep cropping up with each car. Anna said 2013 hasn't been our year. I said no one died so its not that bad. I think I was trying to convince myself more than her.
DJ car went in the shop. Den can only do so much. And he has done much. After he did the head gasket on the car, we have had phantom codes that have set off the check engine light. Even the mechanic agreed that nothing is wrong with the car but he will keep looking. I like this mechanic. He charged us $180 and he fixed the windshield washer pump,  fixed the rear defroster, looked for the gremlin, and worked on an oil leak. He was more than fair.
DJ's car leaks oil. Not terrible but still he's leaking. The mechanic thought that it would be a better idea to try stop-leak and tighten everything up first. How's that for honest! The gasket on the oil pan is probably leaking along with the timing belt/chain cover. He said there was too much oil to tell for sure so he added a dye so he could get a better idea where it is coming from. It is an $800 job to fix it. He doesn't think that it is worth it to dump that kind of money into a 1999 Lumina.
We are grateful that he was so upfront about it. This is a problem that we are going to watch.
That said, we feel that $800 isn't that bad. And we feel that the car is still worth it. The motor and the transmission are in great shape. Even the body isn't that bad. Unfortunately, this is a job that Den can't do. To completely remove the oil pan, he has to move the transmission and pull the motor up. It won't be happening in the Mott garage.
So I will set aside even more money in the car fund for 2014. And I'm still calm about it.
Anna will be coming home for Thanksgiving and we are going to schedule an appointment so she can get her car fixed while she is home. This is another project that Den can't do. A valve needs to be replaced behind the motor and he can't get to it because the firewall is in the way. Sigh.
As DJ and I were driving to pick up his car, the check engine light came on in my van. You know, I can't make this shit up.
 Laughing not crying,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

This is an awesome project! It's old paint chips, a canvas and a paper punch!!! AMAZING. I think it would even work for making your own cards too, they would just have to be glued flat.
Don't get too excited but I know that I have old paint chips AND ANNA HAS A TON OF PAPER PUNCHES! I know what I'm doing this weekend.
Everyone calm down,

The Blue Pandemic

I don't want to alarm anyone but I think I know what the next major problem is going to be in the world. The Great Recession and Swine Flu was nothing compared to this. Preppers should panic!
And to think that I pieced this together all by myself.
Let me quote a few little tidbits for you about Viagra..........................
"in rare instances, men have reported an erection that lasts many hours. You should call a doctor immediately if you ever have an erection that lasts more than 4 hours. If not treated right away, permanent damage to your penis....."
"In rare instances, men taking PDE5 inhibitors (oral erectile dysfunction medicines, including VIAGRA) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes...."
"Sudden loss or decrease in hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears and dizziness, has been reported in people taking PDE5 inhibitors, including VIAGRA......."

So men are going blind and deaf with a 4 hour erection. Do you see the kind of chaos this could cause? They can't see the person they are going to have sex with and can't hear them screaming for mercy. What if its his neighbor?
Just a thought,
Sonya Ann

I'm great and I'm sure I will teach them to say that!

4 Cars and a Few Bikes?

Well shit. Where to start?
Den's car has a cracked front windshield. He had a slight chip in it which he filled and then a massive chunk of semi-tire hit his window in almost the exact same place. The windshield "glue" didn't hold and we need a new windshield.
My van is still at Red Alert because the rear sensor hasn't been replaced. It is also making a loud creaking noise when you turn. PERFECT. Not to mention that old girl(that's my van's name) needs new tires.
The Lumina/DJ's car is now leaking oil and the check engine light is still on. The motor is running like a champ though! The gasket is bad on the oil pan and Den said he can change it out in an hour. The check engine light is still on from when he redid the motor and can't find the problem. He said that it is a pinched hose but he can't find it. It will be going back in the shop. Back in 2009, I put my finger through a rust spot on the white car. Guess what I did again? Ahhhh, it looks like we will be painting the car again.
And last but not least, Anna's car completely quit. The bad news is it broke down by her and Den couldn't fix it. $666 later(She said to the man at the shop that was the number of the devil and wasn't having bad mojo so change the bill. He took off a dollar. She told him he could have taken off a hundred. Haha, she is my kid.) -IT STILL WASN'T FIXED! They worked on the fuel injectors. Meaning that the top of the motor had to come off. Den said this wasn't a bad price for all the work that they did. I don't concur. She brought it back in for a second time when the check engine light came back on and Den called the shop. He decided that she can drive it home and he will fix it for $42.
And the weird part is----I'M NOT THAT UPSET. Our car fund has been completely depleted for the year and still I'm ok with it. I have decided to stop the 52 week challenge and use that money. I'm so glad that I have it. I'll start up fresh next year. I hate failing at anything but I'm not having a credit card bill.
I actually feel blessed. And no, I didn't hit my head. This is just part of owning older cars and it is so much cheaper to do these repairs than it is to have 4 car payments. Not to mention that our car insurance rates would be through the roof if we had all had new cars.
We try to take really good care of our cars and we try to keep ahead/on top of any problems. Our running joke is that all of our cars have been completely rebuilt because of all of the work that has been done. For 2014, I'm going to double our car repair fund though.
A friend of mine said that we should buy bikes. I don't know how well Anna would fair riding a bike in Chicago. Or trying to carry all of her dirty laundry in her basket. I would get DJ a bike with a banana seat, a bell and streamers. I'm thinking a pink bike for Den. I would need an old lady bike with 3 wheels. I'm afraid my fat ass would swallow a bike seat at this point.
Pan handling,
Sonya Ann

Fabulous Friday

I could do this. You could do this project. We could all do this project.
Now that it is getting colder out, I have more time to find projects. I'm not saying that I will do them but I could. Sometimes, looking at all of these projects makes me miss Anna. She loved to do one craft after another. She told me that she won't be staying home for Christmas break, she has to work. We will only get her for a few days. Poop. Maybe I will make something for her or we could just plan a trip to Goodwill. I'm sure that we will find something to do.
Have a great weekend and hug your kids cuz they do eventually leave! Maybe we could ship DJ to EIU and keep Anna for a while. Wait!!!!! We will keep Anna for a few days and then give her DJ as her Christmas present. I'm brilliant!
Smart and crafty,
Sonya Ann

Muddy Water

Sometimes, I wonder if I am the only one that these things happen to. Sigh.
When we replaced our refrigerator, we were lucky enough to get a frig with an ice maker and water dispenser. I love it.
For about a week every time I went to get a glass of ice water, it came out dirty. There were floaties in it. At first, I thought that the dishwasher wasn't doing it's job. Poor dishwasher got blamed for nothing.
Then I got a glass of water and it had what I thought was a corn floatie in it. How in the hell did that happen? So I poured it out and got another glass of ice water. This one was fine.
Then it got to the point where I couldn't get a "clean" glass of water. So I yank the ice tray out only to find that my husband had been hiding Dilly Bars in there and one got stuck in the grinder. I was drinking chocolate and peanut water for some time. Maybe Den is the reason I can't lose weight.
But I have a plan for us.........................
We can listen to Muddy Waters while...............................................
Drinking Muddy water drinks!!!!
I think it would be better to drink alcohol at my house than it would be to get water from the dispenser.

Wicked Wednesday

So do we all agree that it is a boy car? I think it is safe to say. And how come there aren't any girl flashers? You never hear of that. And now the real question, would a man ever call the cops on girl flashers?
Pondering such deep thoughts,

I'm A Pastry

From Young Married Chic.
I swear I'm surrounded by a bunch of comedians. My bestie, Donna is adorable and is English. She says the cutest things. I was all dressed up and we were all going out a while ago and she said, "I was all TARTED up." She was saying I was a bit of a harlot. Bless her heart. It does sound cute with the English accent.  Anyways Den said, "Yes, she is TARDED." As in retarded.
Anyways, that lovely exchange got me thinking about Christmas and goodies to give out. From me being a simple slut to Christmas gifts-what a tie in?!!?!? I linked to the recipe under the picture. I think the English and the ass should make me a few of these. Anyone making any gifts this year?
Off to sulk and bake,

A Loser, A Fish Tank, and Hip Thrusts

Go here first. That was funny. And now you know how I did in Vegas. Sad, sad Sonya.
I did take Den out to dinner at the Mermaid Restaurant & Lounge. I thought that was a pretty awesome 40th gift and going to Vegas didn't suck either as a gift. He didn't win but hey, you only turn 40 once. You turn 29 many, many times.
And this is the dance that MiserlyMac is doing. Congrats on being the $25 winner!!! Please email me your information so I can get the money to you ASAP!
Now do you get the title? I'm the only one that thinks I'm funny. At least, I get my jokes. Well, sometimes.
We got back at 2:30am Friday morning. Our flight was late. We didn't see DJ until he got home from school on Friday. He took one look at me and said, "You look like Hell." Gee thanks, boy. Needless to say, it showed that I partied a bit too much.
Anna's car broke down while we were gone. Sigh. We were losing more money than we knew. And there is a murderer on the loose in Antioch. He has been caught on surveillance at one of the grocery stores in town after the murders even though he knew he was wanted. So he is either brazen or crazy.
And that's all I got for ya. I think you are caught back up on my life now.
Still sleeping it off,
Sonya Ann
