Vegas Tiles

This heathen finally went to church and it didn't catch on fire. Who knew?
Den and I went on another adventure last weekend. Ok not so much an adventure as it was searching out garage sales. So it only makes sense that we ended up at a barn that had been converted to look like a castle that was now a church with an attached resale shop. Makes sense to me.
I have to say that this was such an adorable place. Den thought that it would make for an amazing bed and breakfast. I could have stayed there for days.
The problem was the smell. There was no doubt that it had been a barn at one time. But it was a fun place just not to breath. They were having a bag sale. This must be a church thing. $2 for all the clothing that you could stuff in a bag and there was a lot of vintage things.

Oh how these have been scrubbed. I think I'm going to keep the red and the yellow jacket for me and give the rest to my neighbor.
The purple one may stay. I'm not sure yet. But my neighbor will appreciate these. She has a fancy-smancy sort of job and has to dress up.
Den has his Christmas party every year and I always get stuck with purchasing expensive dress clothes. I might have the vintage coat taken in and pair it with gray pants and a gray shell. Hey, vintage is the in thing right now.
This was part of the stuff that we brought in on Saturday. Den power-washed his parents house on Friday so no adventures that day.
We spent $16 on Saturday and brought more crap treasures home. Den loved this little lady but she is broken.

He is going to bondo her and then repaint her. The broken birdbath turned out really well so I'm not worried about this project.
Saturday night my bestie brought her daughter and husband over so that we could see her before she went to homecoming. She is beautiful and so mature, her father not so much. We have known her since she came to America at the age of 5. We are getting so so old. Even Den was talking about how she has grown and how time is flying by. In his heart, all little girls should stay 5 and never look at a boy EVER.
On Sunday, we stopped by his parents house to check up on his dad. They keep changing his meds and he isn't doing so hot.
We also stopped at a few garage sales in some "rich" neighborhoods since we were out that way. We bought a bunch of movies and DVDs for $6.
I found that adorable wooden purse for $3 and I think that I may use that for the Christmas party this year too. How funny is that, my outfit will cost about $3.35.
I got the heavy vase for $3 and we stopped by Goodwill and I got the bag for $2.13. Spirit airlines is changing the size of the bag that flies for free the beginning of next year and I wanted to see if I could get everything that I needed in it. Yup. It all fits even with snacks.
Then we hit the motherload. WHY WEREN'T WE GARAGE SALING IN THE REALLY RICH NEIGHBORHOODS ALL SUMMER! We met this adorable couple and they had helped their daughter rehab a house. Well, she got a job off in AZ and sold the house after they had gutted it. They wanted to be rid of all of the extra tile. $20!!!!!! This is more than enough to do the bath upstairs and down. My guess is that is way more than $300 of tile.

There are some odds and end pieces but 8 unopened boxes of tile!!! It felt like we robbed them. This may be our best find ever!
Den had that gleam in his eyes as we drove off with the ass-end of the toyota dragging. You know that gleam-I'm going to tear shit up. Remember how I was worried that I wouldn't have anything to talk about this winter, well I bet we find plenty to do with the tile!!!! I think downstairs all we need is a glass shower door and maybe a sink. Upstairs I'm not sure what Den has in mind. But I know that we will save a ton on this project because of this find. And I will have something to complain about write about.
Total spent for the weekend was 44.13!!!! You are going to hear about the tile for years to come as that being our best find!!!
This is a poor picture from 3 years ago in Vegas. Notice he had 2 drinks. Things were hazy for a few days after that night. It must have been fun, right?
Well, we are heading off to our funnest place-Vegas. I'll be back in a week with more fuzzy pictures. Wish me luck and sobriety. LOL just wish me luck.
I'm just hoping that my FIL can do this trip, he's had so many problems. Poor man. Cancer sucks! But this is to be our celebration for him being cancer-free. I'll see you in a week and hopefully I'll still have a bit of cash left!!!!
Livin' it up,

Easy Chicken

I tried a new recipe and I didn't ruin it or kill us. Shocking! I got the recipe from Living on a Dime. It is one of my all time favorite sites.
Believe it or not that is a picture of orange chicken. Look, the things I cook aren't always edible pretty but I try really, really hard so that counts for something.
Easy Orange Chicken-
4-5 chicken breasts
1 can orange soda
1/3 cup soy sauce
I chunked the chicken and then added the soda and the soy sauce and let it sit overnight. Bake at 350 for 2ish hours.
Next time I make this I'm going to throw a bag of frozen stir fry veg in it the last 15 minutes. This had a good flavor and was so simple even an idiot Sonya could do it.
Do you have a super easy go to recipe?

Makin' It And Savin' It Sunday

The Penny Hoarder had me at free travel! They have listed 101 ways to get free stuff and some of them I didn't know about!!!! Have any to add to the list? I know that if you are a smoker, you can sign up with Marlboro for free gifts. It would probably be cheaper to quit but what do I know.

Fabulous Friday

This little gem or should I say rock is from Balancing Home. This would be a perfect gift for a little one to make and give out as gifts and it would keep them busy for a long time!!!!
Now I can start hoarding collecting rocks! I'll have a few drinks and then walk around the neighborhood picking up rocks on the side of the road. I'm sure I will look sane and no one will call the police on me.
In the bag,

Slick Hoarder

I'm so excited I found two more things to hoard. No wait, I found a new way to make something naturally. Yes, that is it. Homemade lip-gloss in a tube!!!!
I used the recipe for making lotion bars from before and then added a lot more olive oil!!! If the consistency isn't right,  just reheat it and add more oil/wax. I didn't clean out the old tube because I decided to try this as the lotion/lip-gloss was cooling and I had no time to get the rest of the old lip-gloss out. My life seems like it is a last second sort of thing now.
Anyways, you should be better than me and clean out the tube, then make the lip-gloss/lotion!!! Roll the tube like a toothpaste tube and insert the tip into the warm lotion and let it unroll itself. It will suck it up like a champ or would that be chap. I'm a dork.

Boring By My Standards

This post is boring even by my standards. There wasn't much in the way of garage sales over the weekend. And since it rained so much, people that had planned on having them cancelled.
But I did manage to find ink for my printer for $2 each. It is normally $20 each cartridge so that was a huge find. And a little storage unit for Anna's closet. Maybe that mess will sort itself. I have asked Anna to come home and help sort it but she doesn't seem that interested.
The owl will be hidden in the yard for our little treasure hunt for my nephews. Den and DJ always complain that I only buy good containers for the cat food and they get the crappy butter containers. $.50 for a tupperware container wasn't a bad find and maybe they will stop complaining that I like the cats more. Mind you, I do like the cats more but I never tell them that.

The shed will be nice and packed so I will have plenty to complain about in say May. We didn't have any goggles so these were a great find. I spent a total of $11 on everything pictured. Hmmmm, what will I talk about when I don't have anymore garage sale finds to post about?
I'm still trying to come up with ideas for when we redo DJ's room. I really like this painting and think that I might go with something like it. When I redid Anna's room, I knew exactly the colors and decorations that I wanted but had no idea about the furniture. I'm having just the opposite problem with DJ's room. I know what furniture I want just no idea about decorating.
And that's about it for the weekend round up. We watched Lord of the Rings the rest of the weekend. Not terribly exciting!
How about you, any good finds at garage sales? Are they almost over in your neck of the woods?

Den's Cracked Wienie

Den found this recipe on Facebook and had to try it. It is called Wienie Crack and for the life of me I can't find the link. So whoever posted the original-thank you so VERY much.
We brought these to a party and everyone raved over them and then started calling them Den's wienies. Look, I'm not the only one around here that has issues, most of my friends are just as depraved as I am.  I like that in a person.
Anywho, here is the super easy recipe for Heaven.
1 pound bacon cut into thirds
1 pound Lil Smokies
1 stick of butter(We used my fakin butter cuz we didn't want me to die)
2 cups brown sugar
Preheat oven to 375
Wrap the third of a strip of bacon around the wienie
Line them up in a baking pan
Melt the butter and then add 1 cup brown sugar, stir until mixed well
Pour butter/sugar mixture over bacon and wienies
Sprinkle 1 cup of brown sugar on the wienies
Bake 15-20 minutes and then turn up the heat to 400 and bake for another 5 minutes until the bacon is crispy.
We will be making these again but they are sort of expensive but let me tell you they will be the hit of the party.

Makin' It And Savin' It Sunday

I love it at the Penny Hoarder! Even if it isn't something that I would try, it is still interesting to see what other people do to save a buck or two! This article is about a mom that pays penny on the dollar for her groceries! I use all of the local deal bloggers but no one doubles or triples coupons here. Could someone fix this for me???
Happy Sunday,

End Rubbing

I still love my van. That isn't my van but it is exactly the same.

This is a picture of my van. Yuck tar!
Back when Den's car was scratched when they were installing the new window, they told use that we would get a free detailing for all of the trouble. So we just got around to it and we said detail the van, it went through moving DJ and a fishing trip and needed some love. Well dear Vinnie from the dealership said that only the car could be detailed BUT his guys could do just as good of a job at the detailing shop. He lied!
We got the van back and it might have been in worse shape. But then I remembered that WD-40 was supposed to take tar off of vehicles without any elbow grease. I sprayed it on and waited. Ok actually, I talked on the phone with my MIL and Den wiped it off when he realized that I wasn't paying attention. It came off without any effort on my part. Ha ha ha. And just a little effort on Den's part.

See he isn't useless. I don't know why I find this so so funny.

Losing Crabs

It was a busy weekend. We managed to hit a few garage sales this weekend. There weren't many so I'm pretty sure that this is the end of the season. Oh well, we are stocked up on DVDs for the winter.
And the best news about this weekend was that Den got crabs. He was pretty excited about it and they only cost him $.50 each. I thought they were free but he paid for them.
He was so excited to hang them in his net along with 2 little fish.
He couldn't have been happier.
Maybe we should name him Mr. Krabs.
Den was a rebel this weekend and parked my van in a no parking area. He was fine with it since the plate is in my name and the ticket would come to me. That has happened before. Bastard.
I also found these adorable little 7 drawf characters for a grand total of $.60. Dopey is missing one ear and because of his hearing loss, he was only $.10. The others were $.25. Since I have been hiding little things here and there, I told Den that maybe next season, I would make a little hunt for my nephews. Den said that since we are going with a pirate theme, it should be a pirate hunt. It should be fun. Or we will look crazy. Or we will look like slobs. Probably not the first one.
After we got the Krabs and the fish and everything in the pool area just how we wanted it, we packed it all up for the season.
Yeah, it looks like depressing crap.
My fun is over until what the end of May 2016. Long sigh. Long winter.
I have some crazy tetris skills, let me tell you. I packed the shed with some made skills. No really I was a little mad, Den wasn't helping. Well, he was making dinner but still.
I also have to get another table, 4 chairs, a bench, and many, many, flower pots in there. I think there is going to be some deflating done around here. Hmmmmm, I may be a Patriot.

I moved all of the plants from the very back back to the middle yard just so that we could enjoy them.
Not that I am going to water them. Our last water bill was $135 for 2 months. That wasn't us filling the pool either, it was watering the plants, laundry and the shower whoring boy. UGH!
I may not be able to grow many tomatoes or morning glory but give me some basil and I'll make a damned bush out of it.
Except for this little guy, he never grew.
Being the runt just might have added to his lifespan or I may kill it. Let's be honest, I may kill him. We shall name him Clifford and hope for the best.
And some good news and some not surprising news. The good news is I have quite a bit of money to add to my total and the not surprising news is that I forgot about it. I forget things quite a bit. Sometimes, I think that Den is psychic but I actually said the same thing a few times and he just finishes my sentence. I am losing it.
Anywho, I have $23.85 being deposited into my checking from SavingStar. I also got a $10 Amazon gift card from Swagbucks, $10 Panera gift card from MyPoints, and $21.65 Amazon gift code from SavingStar. Go me, the forgetful one.

$23.85    SavingStar cash deposit
$21.65    SavingStar Amazon gift code
$10         Swagbucks- Amazon gift code
$96         Pinecone Research
$91.25    BP
$10         Beer rebate
$24         Wine rebate
$25          MyPoints gift card-Macy's
$10          MyPoints gift card Panera
For a total of $311.75
The only good news out of all of this is that I am more than half way done Christmas shopping already. I hit the after Christmas sales and got most of the stuff for Den's work. Candles and wall hangings it is.
And spent,

Monday, September 14, 2015

I'm a summer girl and seeing it leave is depressing for me.  So I figured that I would try and find ways to enjoy the crappy fall. Last year, I came up with this atrocity but it was relaxing to watch and was great when it got cooler out. It was great in the dark too, sort of like me.
I have been collecting free and cheap candles from garage sales and I got this cute little bowl for $.50. Now if I could only find cheap alcohol at garage sales, this would make for a cheap hobby.
I also have been saving all of my good smelling wax from candles that have burned off. I stuck a free candlestick in the wax and let it burn down. Oh and the jar was from my hoard stash.

This worked surprisingly well and was fun to watch plus it smelled great. I need a life. Guess I will have to start hoarding old candle wax now.

Makin' It And Savin' It Sunday

This is an interesting read over at the Penny Hoarder. It is about a new service that helps you get reimbursed if you are bumped off of a flight. At first, I thought it wasn't such a great idea but if you are denied your claim then they will go after the airline for you for a 25% fee if they collect. Actually, this is probably worth it. What do you think?
